Artist Statement
In June 2019, I attended my first men's quilting retreat in Arnprior, ON. During on the evening meals, the guys discussed the option of creating a challenge for the attendees. During the discussion, many options were brought to the table and weighed for its merit and challenge. The group agreed to use a panel of fabric called Bohemian Rhapsody, designed by Dan Morris.
The challenge was to create a project from an existing pattern or create a unique project using the fabric panel. I created an original design that utilized the log cabin block using the panel cut into 2 ¼" strips and paired it with solid white for contrast. I also added a grunge black fabric to link all the blocks together.
To create the "keyhole" I used the Quick Curve Ruler by Sew Kind of Wonderful to create the rounded diamond motif. The top was pieced at the Whitecourt Fall retreat in 2019 and quilted in January 2020.
